Budgam, Jul 07 (KNO): In a bid to encourage transparency and enhance service delivery in Jammu & Kashmir’s transport sector, Transport Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan on Monday visited Budgam to inspect the ARTO office and review key infrastructure projects, including the proposed Driving Trial Track at Ompura.
During his visit, he was accompanied by Qazi Irfan, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Kashmir.
Earlier in the day, the Transport Commissioner held an interaction with transporters and stakeholders at the RTO Office, Bemina, where he listened to their concerns, suggestions, and feedback regarding transport operations, permit issues, and public service delivery.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he assured them that genuine concerns would be addressed in a time-bound manner and reiterated the department's commitment to transparent and efficient governance.
He reiterated that the recent directive — permitting only applicants to visit RTO and ARTO offices in order to further strengthen transparency — shall be implemented in letter and spirit.
During his visit to Budgam, Mahajan assessed the functioning of the ARTO office, interacted with the staff, and emphasised the need for enhanced service delivery, transparency, and citizen convenience.
He reviewed office operations and suggested improvements for public interface and efficiency.
The Transport Commissioner also inspected the proposed site for the Driving Trial Track at Ompura, aimed at streamlining the driving license testing process and ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.
Mahajan also held a discussion with the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, regarding the transfer of the proposed site at Ompura for use by the Transport Department. He stressed the importance of expediting the handover process and initiating driving tests at the site once the required infrastructure is in place.
